A reserved young taxi driver navigates the neon-lit streets of Tokyo, quietly witnessing her passengers' poignant life transitions while embarking on her own introspective journey toward turning thirty.
Regular fare Yakumo gets into Shoko's cab with a woman called Aimi whom he is desperately trying to seduce; after he gets out, Momo and Yuki, who are each celebrating their 30th birthday, get in; Momo gives Yuki a piece of paper with her number on it, but Yuki does something unexpected.
Yuki reveals she is actually 42 and had lied about her age; Momo calms down and the pair becomes closer through a game of lies; listening to them, Shoko starts a countdown to turning 30 using the playing cards she got from Yakumo.
Shoko talks to cafe owner Hirukawa about turning 30 and he suggests having a big cleanout. Yumi and Yota, who were spying on sweet potato seller Naoyuki at the train station, get into Shoko's cab and ask her to follow Naoyuki's truck.
Shoko approaches Naoyuki to buy a sweet potato. Husband Kenichi, who arrived later, persuades Yumi to approach Naoyuki, the father who once abandoned her to start a new family.
Shoko drives her aunt Yayoi and Reika, a popular actress managed by Yayoi, home in her taxi. Two young men carrying bamboo brooms, Takumi and Daisuke, hop into the cab, revealing themselves to be lifeforms from another world.
Shoko is driving two wizards, Takumi and Daisuke. As Daisuke insists on staying in the human world to pursue an absurd dream, Takumi must choose whether to leave without him or stay by his side.
At Gen's café, Shoko and Gen Hirukawa discuss art and dreams; that night, regular fare Yakumo hops into Shoko's taxi, eager for a grown-up party; but in a warehouse district, he comes face-to-face with Aimi and a tough-looking man named Hiroshi.
Shoko impulsively completes an unfinished mural on some shopping street shutters; when a travelling artist, Nao, wakes up and sees it, she's amazed by Shoko's talent; Nao begs Shoko to let her stay over at her place.
Looking back on the past, Shoko realises she didn't want to change so her mother could find her; she is uncertain whether she should change now; her passengers all had their reasons for choosing change; Yuki and Otake reunite at a class reunion.
Kamemura fails to sell the water and loses his job, parting ways with Otake; after returning to Shoko's taxi, he confronts the fact that he hasn't changed; the pair discuss the meaning of change and happiness.
Though living with a serious illness, Yuki is happy to have been noticed by Otake; Otake confronts his past as a scammer selling fake healing water; while looking after Yuki, Shoko comes to understand the meanings of change and being seen.
Tsubasa leaves behind a certificate tube in Shoko's taxi, with a note; Shoko and Mei imagine the story behind it; shaken by a passenger's cruel words, Mei is forced to confront her own vulnerability.
On her day off, Shoko accompanies Haruto, a bedridden young man connected to the world through an avatar robot, on an outing at Hirukawa's request; Shoko must confront the reality and discover what this journey means for the three of them.
Shoko returns to see Haruto with a gift, rekindling his desire to help others. She then visits the struggling Mei, before breaking down as her own fears of rejection boil over.
After rescuing Tsubasa from a river, Shoko and Reika unexpectedly confront her past; Shoko's own perspective begins to change.
Shoko talks about the taste of love with Reika and Yayoi. When Reika claims that she has never felt love, Shoko feels a sense of unease. Reika later encounters Yakumo in front of her home. Shoko recalls a memory from her high school days.

Shoko continues her strange drive with Ishikawa, who claims to be from the future; as he opens up about his life, Shoko listens with compassion.
